Ohio State quarterback Will Howard, after a costly scramble in their 32-31 loss to Oregon, said, “It sucks... You don’t want to lose a game like that,” reflecting on the missed chance to win

 All Ohio State needed was a few seconds on the clock for kicker Jayden Fielding to try a game-winning field goal against No. 3 Oregon. With six seconds left and trailing 32-31, quarterback Will Howard took the snap on third-and-20. Looking for Brandon Inniss, he faced pressure and decided to run. Howard scrambled up the middle and slid with just one second remaining. However, he wasn’t able to call a timeout before the clock hit zero.

“He knew what he was doing,” offensive coordinator Chip Kelly explained. “He’s sharp. He thought he went down with time left. Once you give yourself up, you’re down.” Howard’s goal was to gain enough yards and leave time for a field goal attempt, but his slide ended Ohio State’s chance to steal a victory at Autzen Stadium, leaving the Buckeyes with their first loss of the season.

“It’s a bummer. It sucks,” Howard said postgame. “You don’t want to lose a game like that. I could’ve gone down earlier, given us a chance. It would’ve been a long kick.” Howard now looks to regroup as Ohio State heads into its second bye week.
