Bills end two-game losing streak as Jets begin new era with a defeat.

The Buffalo Bills faced an unusual challenge against the New York Jets, conceding significant plays throughout the game, including a Hail Mary at the end of the first half that narrowed the score to 23-20. Despite the Bills' offense scoring touchdowns on three of their first four drives, the defense struggled. Nickel corner Taron Johnson made a crucial return to the lineup by intercepting Aaron Rodgers with just under two minutes left, sealing the victory.

Johnson, a 2023 second-team All-Pro, played in his first game since a forearm injury in Week 1. The Bills (4-2) managed to avoid their first three-game losing streak since 2018, maintaining a solid lead in the AFC East. While the game wasn't perfect, it showcased resilience. 

**Eye-popping stat:** Josh Allen reached an impressive speed of 16.26 mph on a 42-yard completion to RB Ray Davis, marking the fastest recorded speed for a quarterback on a deep completion (20-plus air yards) over the last two seasons, according to NFL Next Gen Stats.

**Most surprising performance:** Ray Davis stepped up significantly as the second running back in place of the inactive James Cook. Davis recorded 116 scrimmage yards in the first half, the highest by a Bills rookie since 1980. He finished the game with 97 rushing yards on 20 carries and 55 receiving yards on three catches, proving vital for the offense’s success.

**Troubling trend:** Tyler Bass’ kicking struggles continued, a concern since training camp. In difficult weather conditions with sustained winds of 17 mph and gusts up to 35 mph, Bass had a blocked PAT and missed a 47-yard field goal. He did convert a 22-yard field goal but is now only 2-of-5 from 40-49 yards this season, ranking among the bottom in that category.

The Bills’ defense allowed eight plays of 20 or more yards to the Jets, a stark contrast to their earlier performances, where they permitted just seven such plays in the first three games. The Jets' offense, averaging 80.4 rushing yards per game, managed 121 yards against the Bills. However, Buffalo's red zone defense was effective, limiting the Jets to one touchdown on four attempts and benefiting from two missed field goals by Jets kicker Greg Zuerlein.

Despite missed opportunities, the Bills forced turnovers and avoided critical mistakes. Quarterback Josh Allen extended his streak to six games without an interception, the longest of his career.

**New York Jets (2-4):** The Jets, under new head coach Jeff Ulbrich and offensive playcaller Todd Downing, suffered their third consecutive loss, missing a chance to share first place in the AFC East. They faced the same issues that led to the dismissal of former coach Robert Saleh: excessive penalties (11 for 110 yards) and missed opportunities, including two second-half field goals by Zuerlein.

Although there were signs of improvement on offense, the Jets have lost their last three games by a combined total of just 10 points, leaving them on the brink of playoff elimination. Owner Woody Johnson, who touted this as the best roster in 25 years, must be disappointed as the team struggles to meet expectations. 

**QB breakdown:** Aaron Rodgers rebounded from a poor performance the previous week, passing for 294 yards and nearly achieving 300 yards for the first time in 28 games. Despite a few dropped passes, he delivered a stunning 52-yard Hail Mary touchdown just before halftime, though his interception on the final drive sealed the loss.

**Most surprising performance:** Breece Hall returned to form with 113 rushing yards and 56 receiving yards, benefitting from more creativity in the run game and improved blocking. Unfortunately, red zone inefficiency (1-for-4) hampered their efforts.

**Troubling trend:** The Jets struggled to contain rookie Ray Davis, who totaled 152 yards from scrimmage. Their run defense remains a major concern, with missed tackles and poor gap discipline evident throughout the game. C.J. Mosley returned but was limited in play, which may have contributed to their defensive struggles.

**Eye-popping stat:** Rodgers’ Hail Mary traveled 52 air yards, marking the longest completion by a Jets quarterback since Mark Sanchez in 2010. This was Rodgers' fourth Hail Mary touchdown, a record in the league since 2008, demonstrating his ability to deliver in clutch moments.
